This Royal Doulton Sir John Falstaff Character Jug is from their Characters from Literature series, issued between the years 1950 to 1995. He was a fictional character appearing in three plays by William Shakespeare: Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2, and The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Hand painted details highlight Sir John Falstaff's bearded face, framed by short cut grey hair beneath a black, elaborately feathered hat. Expressively arched eyebrows above heavily lidded eyes and a mouth seemingly in the midst of a conversation add a sense of animation to Falstaff's face. Salmon colored Shakespearean clothing and a black sash complete his rakish attire. A salmon colored figural handle in the shape of a feather reflects the characteristics Sir John Falstaff's unique story.
Royal Doulton introduced Sir John Falstaff in 1950 in a variety of sizes and ceased production in 1995.

The character jug measures approximately 3 1/2" in length, as measured to include the tip of Falstaff's nose, and 4 1/2" wide, including the spout and extending feather handle. It is 3 1/2" high, as measured to the top of his hat.
The name, Sir John Falstaff, is inscribed along the back of his clothing, as shown in the photograph.
The figurine is in excellent condition, with absolutely no chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs of any kind.
